The Battenbridge siblings and their employees circled the museum.

“Where are they, Humphrey?” asked Frances in a deep voice that made the hairs on Rufus’ arms stand straight. She strutted around the museum floor in a bright red trouser suit and high heels.

“Erm, erm, they were, er, right here,” bumbled Humphrey.

“There’s only about ten of them,” whispered Rufus to Logan. “Can’t you beat them up?”

Logan raised his head above the passenger window for a split second and crouched back down. “Negative.”

“But you’ve been going to the gym,” protested Rufus, poking one of Logan’s muscular arms.

“Doesn’t make me James Bond!”

“So disappointing,” said Daisy as she shook her head.

“Never mind that… they’re blocking the door,” said Lara, holding onto Barney’s collar.

“They’re in here!” yelled one of the men, peering into the bus windows.

Lara let go of Barney and he flew towards the open door, launching himself at two men. They fell backwards onto the floor as Barney leapt back into the bus to defend his friends, barking wildly.

“Why did you let that brute in here?” screamed Frances.

“It was, er, it was the only way they’d come in,” stuttered Humphrey as he backed away from the bus.

Barney fended off three more of the Battenbridges’ crew, knocking them down like dominoes.

“Enough of this,” said Sebastian, his eyes as cold as steel. “Humphrey, fetch my gun from the office.”

“B-b-but you can’t shoot a dog!”

“Fetch it now before I get it myself and turn it on you.”

Humphrey gasped and then hurried off.

Lara turned to the others, her eyes wild with panic. Tom was tinkering under the steering wheel. He cut a cable and pulled some of the plastic away, exposing bare wires.

“Just one more…” he said to himself as he worked on the other end of the cable. “That’s it!”

Tom joined the ends of the wires together and the old bus engine crackled into life, sending a pile of smoke from the ancient exhaust directly into Frances Battenbridge’s face.

Frances flapped her arms. “Pah! Pah! Sebastian!”

Logan hopped into the driver’s seat and steered the bus around the museum floor in a circle. Lara pulled the passenger door shut and locked it from the inside.

“We can’t keep going in a circle,” said Daisy, looking through the back window of the bus, “they’ll catch up with us!”

“Where am I supposed to go?” Logan shrieked, gritting his teeth.

“Why are you steering around them?” yelled Rufus. “Run them over!”

Logan drove straight towards Frances and three of her helpers, who all jumped out of the way and fell to the ground.

Frances staggered to her feet. “Get them off my bus!”

A crashing sound caught everyone’s attention. Sebastian was running alongside the back of the bus, smashing the windows with a crowbar. Daisy threw herself back towards the front of the bus as glass flew to the ground.

Lara pulled Barney far away from the broken glass. “You need to go faster!”

“Head over there,” said Tom, pointing to the back of the museum. Another exhibit was closed off with a criss-crossed metal barrier.

“It’s blocked,” said Logan.

Rufus grabbed hold of the back of a seat.
